ABOUT

Moya Janelle

Driven by a creative force that cannot be quelled or denied, Moya Janelle has set out to bring love and light to the world through the wisdom, pain, love and light of her expression.

Born in Kingston Jamaica, to a mother who was a registered nurse and a father who was one of the most skilled truck drivers on the island, Moya Janelle was raised in the rich culture of her "talawa" countrymen until the age of 6 when she emigrated to Canada with her parents.

The close knit trio settled in Parkdale, a diverse community offering a plethora of equally diverse, people, cultures, foods, music and so much more. Moya fondly recalls that walking from her home to her middle school would take her past Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Caribbean, Western, and Eastern shops in a sojourn of less than 30 minutes.

Moya spent her formative years in the village of Parkdale, and though many of her experiences were wonderful many others were painful. The variety and profundity of her experiences there and in other cities in the GTA opened her eyes to issues of social disparity and racism.

The colorful and diverse nature of her upbringing is evident in her art. Unable to choose between her love for music, film, and writing, she has chosen to integrate all these mediums into her work and views herself inter-artist and storyteller. Moya hopes to use her experiences to imbue her creative offerings with seeds of wisdom, inspiration, possibility and the truth of human potentiality in order to bring about ascension, revolution and change.
